How long does it take to put land into trust?
|
It varies, depending on the political climate of the federal government. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)has discretionary authority to decide whether or not land is to be held in trust for the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin.
Individually held fee lands are not being accepted by the BIA to go through this process at this time. According to the BIA, tribal lands are the priority. After tearing the reservation apart by allotting it to the individuals, the land is now being put into trust for the tribal government, thus returning the ownership to the communal base which we started with.
